This document is the position paper on electoral politics that was delivered to the annual International Conference of the Black is Back Coalition by Omali Yeshitela on August 18, 2012 in Newark, New Jersey.
After serious discussion by the Conference delegates from throughout the U.S. and spanning the political and ideological spectrum of the African Liberation Movement, the Coalition voted to adopt this paper as its official position on electoral politics.
The Conference, mandated by the Black is Back bylaws, was convened from August 18 through August 19, 2012 and consisted of the vote on the position paper and a series of high quality, challenging panel discussions that included:
Bourgeois monopoly of the electoral process
Challenging the bourgeois electoral monopoly
Advancing a progressive anti-colonial agenda through electoral politics
The position paper being presented here seeks to serve a serious need within the African Liberation Movement in the U.S. and wherever else electoral politics are a possibility for organizing and advancing the struggle of our people.
